Our story
The Borderless Café is a pop-up café created in 2023 by Anthony and Selena, a married couple bringing their passion to your table. After evolving from a home business known as The Dough Project, The Borderless Café pops- up at local markets and events, selling an assortment of delicious treats, homemade breads, tortillas, dry mixes and salsas.
We have a philosophy of balance—a balance of old techniques and new ones, of different ingredients, flavors & culture paired alongside passion and skill.
Anthony
My earliest jobs were spent in food as a line cook until I turned 18 and was able to wait tables. In most cases, if I was hired as a server/bartender you would still find me in the kitchen on some days because cooking is a passion!
After spending my early working career in the food industry, I joined the Marine Corps and served as an aircraft controller until 2015. My time in the military gave me the ultimate cultural experience, taking me to 8 different countries. At that time, I was immersed in East Asian and Northern Marianas Island cultures. All of these experiences helped shape my love for food internationally & here at home!
Selena
A self-taught baker who has been baking and cooking since I’ve been able to reach the kitchen stove! Growing up watching my mom in the kitchen, I always wanted to be just like her! Adding a little of this and a little of that, with a whole lot of love to anything and everything she makes! Between her and my Abuelita, they both play a big part of my inspiration in the kitchen.
Back in high school I would bake cakes for my classmates on their birthdays. Never wanting anyone to miss out on a slice of cake on their special day.
Since then I’ve moved on to butter crust pies, fresh baked breads and so much more. Expanding my knowledge working at a variety of kitchens, catering companies and one of the largest wholesale bread bakeries in Austin. Over the years, I’ve gained a great deal of experience in the food industry and I’m beyond excited to be starting this new chapter with all of you!
OUR KITCHEN
We live for made-from-scratch recipes and choose high-quality ingredients for our kitchen. Our secret ingredient to everything we make is love. When there’s love in the kitchen it elevates the flavors through every bite. We’re constantly learning and improving our skills and love creating new recipes. Many of which reflect my Mexican heritage and my husband’s Southern roots. It doesn’t stop there though, you see we’ve traveled to many different countries and tried to implement different spices and ingredients from around. Were so excited to share some of our favorites with you.
